Hi, my name is Suzanne. I'm 24 years old and was
diagnosed with leg-perthese disease when I was
4 years old. I saw at least 10 doctors before they figured out what was wrong with me. I Dr. named Jeffrey Nugent who was the head of Atlanta
Children's Hospital finally treated me. I was given a brace to wear for two years. I had to wear my brace all the time except when sleeping to keep weight off of my bad hip while it regenerated. I'm not sure the type of brace, but it had velcro straps around my thighs and a steel bar separated my legs. Two other children in my SMALL town also had the disease and saw the same Dr. When I was wearing my brace my good leg was more muscular and larger than the other but that went away soon after I was out of the brace. I have never had any trouble with limping and my legs are the same length. Same for the other two kids in town. You said you were putting the brace on at night, but that's not keeping the weight off of the leg. He should be wearing the brace during the day. And surgery was never even discussed in my case. I hope this helps some and if you have any questions I can help with e-mail to slavewife2000@yahoo.com.
